Discusses the role of Papon in the deportation of 1,690 Jews from Bordeaux during World War II. From June 1942, as secretary general of the prefecture of Bordeaux, he collaborated with the Nazis, organizing the transportation of ten convoys of Jews to Drancy, from where they were deported to concentration camps in the East. States that from October 1943 he began to distance himself from the Vichy regime, in order to prepare for his political reconversion. In 1981, being the only remaining superior civil servant of the Vichy regime, he was indicted for crimes against humanity, but the charges were annulled in 1987.
